Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 Crust
  • 5 Medium Braeburn Apples, finely cored and sliced
  • ⅔ cups sugar
  • ¼ cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg

For Topping:

  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup and 2 tablespoons softened butter
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Peel and finely slice 5 large apples
  2. Mix apples, 2/3 cup sugar, 1/4 cup flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Preheat oven to 425° Fahrenheit
  4. Place one pie crust on the bottom of pie tin.
  5. Add apple pie filling
  6. Mix topping ingredients well and spread evenly on top of pie
  7. Trim excess dough, but the crust will shink a bit, so leave a bit
  8. Using fork, crimp the crust to give a pie crust look
  9. Place tinfoil around the outside of the crust to help burn.
  10. Put in oven for 35 minutes
  11. Remove tinfoil
  12. Check every 5 minutes and remove when it looks done. 5 to 10 minutes later.
  13. Let rest for at least 2 hours and serve

Notes

  • Store-bought crust works fine, but I use my homemade Best Butter Crust recipe.
  • Slice the apples thin for the best results and make sure to leave the core out.
  • I have purchased a ‘legit’ pie crust guard before, but I think pieces of tinfoil works better.
