Mint Is In Full Season! Mint Margarita?
We grow mint in our backyard and when the season is here, there is a lot of mint to use. If you have ever grown mint, you know that when they become healthy plants, they can really produce.
Mojitos are a go-to mint cocktail of ours, but I have been spending my allocated drink allowance on margaritas. And yes… as a cocktail blogger… I have to be a little aware of how many tastings I do.
So, I started thinking about maybe trying a mint margarita. At the same time, I was tossing around the idea of a frozen ice cream margarita dessert. Both Ashley and I discussed how a mojito milkshake could be really good.
Well, why not bring some of the fruity flavors of the margarita into this mix? This mint margarita, in milkshake form, has really turned into a wonderful drink that I am proud of.
Use Tequila Blanco in this Mojitarita
There are several different kinds of margarita, the youngest of which is tequila Blanco. This is a spirit that has spent very little, if any, time in oak barrels.
I think tequila Blanco is the most appropriate for this drink, as I am not sure if I think oak flavors will mesh well with the rest of the flavor. The agave can, however, add some great flavors to this mint margarita in a milkshake… the Mojitarita!
What Kind Of Ice Cream Should I Use?
The recipe calls for vanilla ice cream, but then I add some lime juice. It may be a viable alternative to use lime ice cream or a sorbet, but I did not experiment with them.
I also thought about making ice cream from scratch, which would be great, as well. I just decided that Vanilla Ice cream from the store would work great for our mint margarita variation.
Tips for making the Mojitarita
- On serving size… yeah it is two servings, but in typical ‘me’ fashion, I served it in a pint glass. This would make it ONE serving.
- Vanilla Ice cream is ideal, but you could experiment with chocolate mint ice cream.

I have never made any kind of mint margarita. Such a creative and delicious idea!
I am digging this combination. It sounds so delicious. Loving the fresh flower in the glass too!
This looks SO good. We’ve been having a heatwave and I’ve been looking for ways to cool off. This has my name on it.
My mint plants are just getting started this year … so not a lot of harvesting happening. But just wait til next year! I’m saving this recipe to use then. I know I’ll have a ton of leaves to put to use.
