The Christmas season means it is time for comforting holiday recipes and cocktails like eggnog. This from-scratch Kahlua Spiked Eggnog Recipe is a delicious, simple, double-serving Christmas classic with a coffee twist. Get out your cocktail shaker to make this simple drink that packs a whole bunch of flavor.
Kahlua Spiked Eggnog Recipe Summary
This is a double serving eggnog recipe. It is as simple as adding all ingredients to a shaker and shaking the heck out of it. That is it. In a traditional punchbowl nog like the one you have seen in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, you will have the yolks mixed into the main part of the cocktail and then the whites whipped until solid and then added to the drink.
For this drink, we are putting the whole egg right into the shaker. The yolk will naturally blend right into the drink. The egg white might not reach the full thickness you would get by whipping it separately, but you will get a nice frothy topping. If you have ever used egg whites in your cocktails before, you may know what I mean. Not only do the egg whites add a frothy top to any drink, it also adds a rich texture to a drink. We also used this ingredient and technique in our Sam Ross Sour.
I am also using brandy and Kahlua in this drink to make it a spiked eggnog recipe. The Kahlua liqueur is a great complement to the creamy traditional spiked nog or a Classic White Russian. Or, of course, check out my recipe for homemade coffee liqueur and use that!
Crushed Ice
Some of you probably have your own way of making crushed ice, including a refrigerator that does it for you. I do it the old fashioned way… I take a mallet to a bag. It is called a Lewis Bag and you can find them on Amazon [Affiliate Link]. They work great and it is kind of fun to use it.
Using Raw Eggs
This recipe uses raw eggs. Similar to homemade meringue or mayonnaise, raw egg is a critical component. Use your best judgment for your kitchen and also make sure to read the USDA guide on egg safety. This is important stuff.
If you do use this recipe, make sure to use pastuerized eggs.
